Another Perspective

I am finding the world of blogs to be very interesting. Some are senseless and trash and others are insightful and well-written. You may want to add Perspectives to your favorites. The Rev. Larry Hollen is the Chief Executive of United Methodist Communications and author of this blog. His latest blog is Compassion and the Grace of God.

In response to this and your previous posting, I must say first that I am a long time habituee of Time Magazine and did not see the wonderful article from Newsweek. Through it I linked to another powerful blog by Anna Quindlen on our failure to be good stewards of Earth as evidenced by the unneccessary vunerability of New Orleans to Katrina. I must confess that I spend too much time in front of the TV, yet I luxuriate in the written word. Whether reading or listening to a book on CD, I find myself being informed, educated, and, as you suggest, provoked to exercise my imagination. I thank God for not only giving us the capacity to think and communicate but to record our thoughts and words as well. And speaking of recorded thoughts, I am again reading with a great sense of humility Bonhoeffer's book "The Cost of Discipleship". The Reverend Lary Hollen's comments remind me of Bonhoeffer's thesis that true discipleship is the only legitimate response to God's amazing grace.

Thank you, Jean, for undertaking your blog and using this means to further advance your readers' spiritual journeys, and mine in particular.
